This catagory contains the pre course reading for the courses delivered by the IV Access team.

The courses provide the pre course material which run alongside the face to face sessions.

This pre-course material is intended to provide you with an outline of the theoretical knowledge of venepuncture and cannulation prior to entering supervised practice in your clinical areas. The skill of venepuncture and cannulation requires separate competency assessments as per the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital Competency Booklet. The following sections will focus on the theoretical elements and policies and guidelines surrounding venepuncture and cannulation. Following completion of this pre-course material you will then have access to a formal eLearning package provided by BBraun around peripheral cannulation. Upon successful completion you can enter supervised practice and work alongside competent staff members to build up your skills in venepuncture and cannulation. Simulation practice with the vascular access team is available upon request, the team can attend your clinical area with mannequin arms that are suitable for practicing venepuncture and cannulation skills.

Welcome to this Moodle pre-learning course, established and managed by the vascular access team. Completion of this material marks your first step towards gaining competence in preparing and administering IV medication to patients. We hope this format provides a comprehensive and structured introduction to infusion therapy and we look forward to meeting with you at your upcoming instructor led session.
